The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns wrapped up the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 73-61 win over Alcorn State at the Cajundome Wednesday night.

The Cajuns never trailed in the game and led by as many as 21 points before the Lady Braves (2-8) outscored the Cajuns 20-13 in th fourth quarter to leave the final margin at twelve points.

Keke Veal led the Cajun with 22 points on 8-17 shooting, while Jaylyn Gordon added 14 points and Simone Fields chipped in ten.

Senior Norianna Haynes had a stellar game for Alcorn, scoring 39 points, hitting 12-24 from the field and 14-18 from the free throw line.  She also led the team in rebounds with ten.

The Cajuns forced 23 turnovers, but committed twenty of their own.  Louisiana outrebounded Alcorn 34-25 with Gordon leading the way with seven.

The Cajuns (8-2, 1-0 Sun Belt) led by as many as nine points in the first quarter, 19-10 with 3:28 left, but Alcorn closed on a 7-1 run to cut the lead to three, 20-17 at the end of the first quarter.  Haynes scored 14 of the 17 Alcorn points in the period.

Alcorn trailed by three, 27-24 with 5:48 to play in the second quarter, but Fields, Veal and Gordon scored the next six points to increase the lead to nine.  The Cajuns led 40-31 at intermission.

The Cajuns blew open the game in the third quarter after the Lady Braves cut the lead to five points on a Haynes layup with 7:15 to play.  Louisiana went on a 13-0 run over the next 3:39.  Brooklyn Arceneaux started the run with a jumper, Fields scored a layup and Jodi Quinn followed with a layup on her own.  Veal took over from there, scoring seven straight points to increase the lead to 55-37.

Louisiana led by as many as 22 in the fourth quarter before Alcorn closed the gap down the stretch.

The Cajuns have nothing but conference games remaining and that stretch begins Saturday when they host Appalachian State at 5pm at the Cajundome.
