Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun women's basketball team recorded a home win on Saturday afternoon, defeating the UT-Arlington Mavericks, 63-52, in Sun Belt Conference action at the Cajundome.

Keke Veal and Taylor Washington combined to score 40 points, as Louisiana ran their home record to 8-1 this season.

The Cajuns led the game after the first quarter, 14-11, before UT-Arlington outscored UL, 18-15, in the second quarter, to tie the game, 29-29, as the two teams headed to the locker room at halftime.

Trailing, 42-40, after three periods, Louisiana outscored the Mavericks in the quarter, 23-10, as they went on to the 11-point win.

UT-Arlington outshot Louisiana from the field, 60%/44%, while also finishing with a 27-14 rebound advantage, but the Cajuns forced 25 turnovers, while outscoring UT-Arlington from the free throw line, 27-13.

Leading the way for the Cajuns was Veal, who finished with 21 points and 4 assists, while Washington scored a career-high 19 points, including going 5-for-6 from beyond the three-point arc.

In a losing cause for UT-Arlington, Rebekah VanDijk scored 17 points.

With the victory, the Cajuns improved to 15-4, overall, and 8-2 in Sun Belt Conference play, while the Mavericks fell to 8-11, and 3-6, respectively.

Louisiana will wrap up their five-game homestand this Tuesday, Feb. 2 for a 5 p.m. tip-off with ULM at the Cajundome as part of a day/night, women's/men's doubleheader.
