A Louisiana Ragin' Cajun women's basketball signee recently eclipsed a very special mark.

Merryville point guard Andrea Cournoyer made history on Friday, surpassing 5,000 career points in the Lady Panthers' matchup with South Cameron.

Yes, you read that correctly; 5,000 career points!

How special is that?

Well, Cournoyer became just the eighth player in history to hit that mark, and only the second in Louisiana girls basketball history.

The state's all-time leading scorer is Katie Antony of Anacoco, who scored an amazing 6,190 points between 1998-2003

The 5-foot-5 Cournoyer, who signed with Louisiana during the early signing period in November, also holds the Top 28 scoring record at 69 points in two games.

A 5-time all-state selection by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, Cournoyer has been named to the first-team on four different occasions, along with two Most Valuable Player honors to her credit.

With Cournoyer, the future looks bright for UL women's basketball!
