The 17th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns softball team recorded a big non-conference victory on Wednesday evening, knocking off the 4th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies in College Station, Texas.

Louisiana collected an 11-9 triumph over Texas A&M in their final non-conference game of the season.

UL jumped out to an 11-2 lead, before holding on for the triumph.

The win gives the Cajuns 15 wins in 28 outings against Texas A&M.

Louisiana got on the scoreboard first, scoring 2 runs in the top half of the first inning, when DJ Sander belted a 2-run homer, her 24th of the season, to give them a quick 2-0 lead.

The Cajuns added 4 more big runs in the top half of the second inning, when Haley Hayden crushed a 2-out grand slam homer, her 9th long ball of the year, to widen their lead to 6-0.

Texas A&M got on the scoreboard for the first time in the bottom half of the second inning, plating two runs, both with two outs, including a solo homer off the bat of Kristen Cuyos, her 10th of the season, to trim the deficit to 6-2.

Louisiana seemingly put the game away in the top half of the third inning, scoring 5 runs, all with the outs, including a 3-run double by Hayden, to extend their lead to 11-2.

The Aggies, refusing to give up, scored four runs in the bottom half of the 5th inning to stay alive, including a solo homer by Riley Sartain, her 10th of the year, as well as a run-scoring double off the bat of Ashley Walters, and an RBI single by Samantha Show, to make it 11-6.

Texas A&M added another run in the bottom half of the 6th inning, when Kaitlyn Alderink tripled, and later scored on a wild pitch, to get them to within 11-7.

The Aggies scored two more runs in the bottom half of the 7th inning, and brought the tying run to the plate, but fell short, as the Cajuns hung on for the exciting 2-run victory.

Louisiana, who was outhit by Texas A&M, 13-9, was led at the plate by Hayden, who homered and doubled, while driving home 7 runs.

The final 9 runs that UL scored all came with two outs.

Alyssa Denham (14-2) recorded the win in the circle for the Cajuns, allowing 5 runs on 9 hits. over 4.2 innings pitched.

Alex Stewart tossed the final 2.1 innings to record her first save of the season.

Samantha Show (14-3) suffered the loss for the Aggies, allowing 6 runs on 5 hits in 1.2 innings inside the circle.

With the win, Louisiana improved to 33-6, overall, while Texas A&M dropped to 37-5.

The Cajuns return to action on Saturday, hosting Georgia St. in a doubleheader at Lamson Park, representing the first two games of a three-game league series.                                                                                                                                          ]
