The Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team is adding a transfer.

Infielder Christina Bardwell, who played at Texas in 2016, has joined the program.

Bardwell will have to sit out the 2018 season, to become eligible for the 2019 campaign.

She'll have two years of eligibility remaining.

A native of Baton Rouge, Bardwell attended Hargrave High School in Huffman, Texas, where she was a two-sport standout, in both softball and basketball.

As a freshman, Bardwell hit a .289 over 27 games, including 17 as a starter for Texas in 2016.

In 45 at-bats that season, Bardwell compiled 13 hits, including a double, to go along with 8 runs batted in and 5 runs scored.

The older sister of Dennis Bardwell, an offensive lineman on the University of Houston football team, Bardwell transferred to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in time for the 2017 spring semester, but never played for the Islanders.

The Cajuns open their 2018 regular season schedule on Thursday, February 8, when they face Samford in the opening day of play in the Mardi Gras Classic.
