On this day 33 years ago, a very youthful Michael Jordan, before he was His Airness, he won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award in 1985.

Jordan received 57 1/2 of the possible 78 votes to beat out another Hall of Famer in Hakeem Olajuwon who was the first overall pick in the previous years draft. If you were assuming Michael was the 2nd overall pick in the 1984 NBA Draft, you would be wrong. He was actually the 3rd pick in that draft by the Chicago Bulls with Sam Bowie being picked at two by the Portland Trailblazers. Speaking of the Trail Blazers we all remember the famous three point barrage Jordan hit them with in the 1992 Finals....

He is truly the GOAT and he stormed out of the gates as a 21 year old, fresh off the campus of North Carolina. In his rookie campaign Jordan averaged 28.2 points, 2.4 steals, 6.5 rebounds, 6 assists, and played 38 minutes a night. Here's a look back at some of the best from MJ's Rookie of the Year season (Enjoy the HD picture):
