Who is the best player the New Orleans Saints ever drafted from the Auburn Tigers?

From May 1 until the start of the 2016 NFL season on September 11, we’re going to list the best players that the Saints ever drafted from all 128 FBS schools, as of 2015.

Of course, there are some schools, like Air Force, Appalachian St., Arizona, Army, and South Alabama, in which the Saints have never drafted a player.

Yesterday, we looked at the best player the Saints ever drafted from Arkansas St..

Today, we spotlight the best player the Saints ever drafted from Auburn, in which, surprisingly, the Saints have only taken two players

When it comes to selecting the best player the Saints ever drafted from Auburn, the choice is between only two players; center Lee Gross (1975), and defensive lineman Frank Warren (1981).

The pick: Frank Warren

The pick here is going to be Warren, a defensive lineman, who played 13 years for the Saints, from 1981-1994.

After concluding his college career at Auburn, Warren  was selected by the Saints in the third round of the 1981 NFL Draft.

Primarily a reserve throughout his first seven seasons, Warren was still a force, compiling 26 sacks, including 7.5 sacks in 1986.

The 6-foot-4, 285-pound Warren became a starter in 1988, and then had his best season in 1989, accumulating 50 tackles and 9.5 sacks, both career-highs.

After missing the entire 1990, for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, Warren returned in 1991, totaling 27 tackles, to go along with 7 sacks.

Warren went on to play three more years, at both defensive tackle and defensive end, before retiring following the 1994 campaign.

A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Warren played 13 seasons in the NFL, all for the Saints, appearing in 189 games, including 83 starts.

During that span, Warren compiled 283 tackles and 52.5 sacks.

Sadly, Warren passed away in 2002, due to a heart attack, at the 43.
