Earlier today, Tampa radio station WDAE reported South Florida was hiring Western Kentucky football coach Willie Taggart.

ESPN is reporting the  same.

The hire would be a homecoming for Taggart, who is from the area.  Western Kentucky is his alma mater.

Taggart turned around a struggling Hilltoppers program, going 14-10 the last two seasons.  After being snubbed for a bowl bid last year despite finishing second in the Sun Belt, the 'Toppers duplicated their 7-5 record and will make their first ever bowl appearance in the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl in Detroit on Dec. 26.

It is unknown whether Taggart will coach WKU in the bowl game.

Taggart takes over for Skip Holtz, who was fired after three seasons.  The Bulls were 3-9 in 2012.
