The National Football League has officially suspended Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback, Jameis Winston for the first three games of the 2018 season on Thursday. This suspension is in direct relation to an incident that occurred in Scottsdale, Arizona in March 2016 when he inappropriately touched a female Uber driver.

The NFL made a statement regarding the incident on Thursday which said that Winston violated the league's personal conduct policy "by touching the driver in an inappropriate and sexual manner without her consent. Disciplinary action was necessary and appropriate,"

The suspension will come without pay and he has no plans of appeal.

Winston would make a statement of his own by saying,

"First and foremost, I would like to say I'm sorry to the Uber driver for the position I put you in. It is uncharacteristic of me and I genuinely apologize, I apologize to my teammates, the Buccaneers organization and fans for letting them down and for not being able to be out there for the first three games of the season. Although I am disappointed in the NFL's decision, I understand the NFL's process, and I embrace this as an opportunity to take advantage of the resources available to help me achieve the goals that I have for myself."

In addition, Winston added that he feels like he needs to hold himself to a higher standard in general. The 24 year old also went on to state that he has stopped the consumption of alcohol all together.

There were never any police charges filed, however the driver did file a formal complaint with Uber which lead to Winston having his Uber riding privileges revoked.  The female Uber driver referred to as "Kate," told BuzzFeed that she wanted to tell the truth "about a powerful man who felt entitled to my body when all I wanted to do was my job."
