Appalachian State and Georgia Southern held it down for the Sun Belt this bowl season, and Georgia State and Arkansas State came up a little short.

The Red Wolves ran into a buzzsaw against Louisiana Tech in a 28-47 loss, while Georgia State lost 16-27 to a San Jose State team that came in with a 5-7 record. Let's not focus on the negative though. The two "newcomers" to the Sun Belt made some loud statements.

In the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl, App State beat Ohio University with a late field goal, 31-29. It was a major milestone for the program since entering the FBS last season, and their fans might want to get used to it. The Mountaineers are a proud program with a lot of football tradition, and this could be the beginning of a nice new tradition for the holiday season.

To finish off bowl season for the Sun Belt, Georgia Southern lit up Bowling Green, 58-27, with a dominant performance in the second half. It was their first trip bowling as well, and they put on a show for the rest of the FBS to observe.

The results split down the middle, 2-2, but the conference was happy just to fill out their four bowl slots at the end of the regular season. For Appalachian State and Georgia Southern, this season will hold a special place in their record books as their first bowl appearance and win.

Hopefully, next season, the Ragin' Cajuns will be back in the mix. There really is nothing like getting a trophy as an extra gift for the holidays.
