A big District 5-1A match-up between the St. Martinville Tigers and the Abbeville Wildcats highlight a thin Thursday night schedule in Acadiana as week 8 of the 2015 high school football season begins.

St. Martinville, who is 4-3, overall, and 1-0 in district play, is looking to rebound, after Comeaux snapped their three-game win streak, with a 34-21 victory over the Tigers last week.

With two home games following their visit to Abbeville tonight, a win over the Wildcats would not only keep St. Martinville alive in the district race, but would also give the Tigers a realistic shot at 7-win regular season.

Abbeville, who will head into the match-up at 3-4, overall, and 0-2 in district play, has cooled off after a hot start.

The Wildcats began the year 3-2, but have since lost two-straight, including a 30-8 setback to Breaux Bridge last week.

Abbeville's final two games are against a class 1A White Castle team, and a winless Westgate team, so a win tonight could catapult them to a winning record.

The only other game tonight involving teams from the Acadiana area is a District 5-2A contest which has Sacred Heart-Ville Platte traveling to West St. Mary.

Sacred Heart-Ville Platte is 2-5, overall, and 1-2 in district play, while West St. Mary stands at 1-6, and 1-3, respectively.
