Saturday’s Sun Belt Scores
Two league games highlighted the Sun Belt Conference schedule on Saturday. Here's what happened around the league:
APPALACHIAN STATE 20, TEXAS STATE 13--An inspired performance by the Bobcats came up short as pre-season favorite Appalachian State escaped San Marcos with a win. Taylor Lamb threw for a touchdown and Terrance Upshaw had a rushing touchdown for App State.(2-1 1-0). Damian Williams threw for 260 yards for the Bobcats (1-2, 0-1).
TROY 27, NEW MEXICO STATE 24--Brandon Silvers had a touchdown pass and a rushing touchdown as Troy avoided the upset bid by the Aggies. Tyler Rogers thew for 331 yards and three touchdowns for NMSU (1-2, 0-1), but the Trojans (2-1, 1-0) ran out the final six minutes plus to get the win.
SOUTHERN MISS 28, ULM 17--Ito Smith ran for 219 yards and a touchdown to lead the Golden Eagles to the win. ULM was only 3-16 on third down, but kept things close, but Kwadra Griggs threw his third touchdown pass of the night to hold the Warhawks at bay.
UAB 30, COASTAL CAROLINA 23--The Blazers led all the way as Spencer Brown ran for a pair of scores. UAB (2-1) led 16-5 at the half, then scored again early in the third quarter before the Chanticleers (1-1) rallied late.
TEXAS A&M 45, LOUISIANA 21--The Aggies outscored the Cajuns (1-2) 31-0 in the second half after Louisiana led 21-14 at the half. The Cajuns were hampered by five turnovers in the contest.
WESTERN MICHIGAN 37, IDAHO 28--After a lackluster performance last week against UNLV, the Vandals (1-2) opened a 28-19 lead before WMU got a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns from Jon Wassink.
PENN STATE 56, GEORGIA STATE 0--Trace McSorley threw for four touchdowns and ran for another as the fourth ranked Nittany Lions rolled to the win. Georgia State (0-2) turned it over five times and PSU turned all five into touchdowns.
ARKANSAS STATE 38, ARKANSAS PINE BLUFF 3--Justice Hansen threw for five touchdowns in the Red Wolves' (1-1) home opener. Hansen threw for 336 yards in three quarters of work.
SOUTH ALABAMA 45, ALABAMA A&M 0--Dallas Davis threw for 255 yards and a pair of touchdowns as South (1-2) rolled to its first win of the year.
Georgia Southern (0-2) was idle.
