Seventeen point underdog South Alabama defeated San Diego State 34-27 in overtime to highlight at 4-4 night for Sun Belt Conference teams.

Aleem Sunanon kicked a 46 yard field goal as time expired to force overtime and the Jags (2-1) won it on Xavier Johnson's two yard run.  Johnson had a career high 142 yards rushing in the game played at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium.  Quarterback Cody Clements threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns, both career highs.

Georgia Southern 48, The Citadel 13--Another big game for Matt Brieda as the Eagles running back had 159 yards on 13 carries, including an 87 yard run in the first half.  Kevin Ellison saw his first action of the season for Georgia Southern (2-1) after being declared ineligible for the first two games of the season.

Idaho 41, Wofford 38---The Vandals got their first win of the season Saturday at the Kibbie Dome  Matt Linehan threw for 334 yards and Aaron Duckworth scored three times.  Duckworth's 10 yard touchdown run, set up by a Linehan fourth down conversion, proved to be the game winner.

Arkansas State 70, Missouri State 7--In Jonesboro, The Red Wolves set a new school record for points and rolled up 624 yards in the lopsided win.  James Tabary, playing in place of the injured Fredi Knighten, completed 21-24 passes for 254 yards and three touchdowns to pace Arkansas State (1-2).

Southern Miss 56, Texas State 50--Southern Miss got the road win as Jalen Richard rushed for a career high 230 yards and four touchdowns.  The Golden Eagles (2-1) trailed 25-21 at the half, but scored touchd  A owns on their first five possessions after intermission.  The loss spoiled a great day for Texas State (1-2) quarterback Tyler Jones, who threw for 310 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 160 yards and two scores.

UTEP 50, New Mexico State 47 (OT)--It was the second straight heartbreaking loss for the Aggies (0-3) as UTEP came back from a 14 point deficit in the fourth quarter.  The Miners scored with 3:07 left to cut the NMSU lead to seven and then drove 98 yards in te final minute to tie the game.  A FG in overtime won it for the Miners, spoiling a great night for Larry Rose III who rushed for 196 yards on 20 carries.

#12 Oregon 61, Georgia State 28--Nick Arbuckle threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns to pace the 43 point underdogs, but Oregon scored two defensive touchdowns to match a potent offensive day.  It was a good day for Panthers WR Penny, who had nine catches for 128 yards and a touchdown for Georgia State (1-2).

#24 Wisconsin 28, Troy 3--The Trojans trailed just 7-3 into the final minute of the first half but a late touchdown before intermission helped power the Badgers over Troy (1-2).  The Troy defense was better than expected, but the Badgers' defense was the story, holding the Trojans to 84 yards under their season average.  Troy fumbled on the opening possession of the second half and Wisconsin went on to score on that possession to take a commanding 21-3 lead.

Louisiana, UL Monroe and Appalachian State all had bye weeks.
