The linebacker position is one of the Saints biggest needs this offseason. What's the current viewpoint for the Saints in regards to the LB position? Here is more from Mike Triplett of the Times Picayune and nola.com.

They'll almost certainly address the position somewhere in the first three rounds of the draft. They won't have a ton of worthy players that fit their scheme to choose from in Round 1. Some of the highest-rated outside linebackers are better suited for 3-4 schemes, where they can line up primarily as pass rushers. The Saints could also look to add depth at inside linebacker, especially with current backup Mitchell still unsigned.

Jonathan Vilma starting at middle linebacker is the only certainty when evaluating the LB position for 2011. Scott Shanle is a potential unrestricted free agent, as is Jo-Lunn Dunbar and Danny Clark. All three players started at times last season, and all three had their share of difficulties. The linebacker position definitely needs a significant upgrade this offseason.
