In lieu of special teamer and backup linebacker Nate Stupar's season ending ACL injury, New Orleans is bringing back former special teams captain Michael Mauti. Mauti's agent announced the move today on social media.

Voted a captain by teammates last season, Mauti landing on injured reserve when he battled  ulcerative colitis, eventually undergoing three different surgeries.

After losing a significant amount of weight, Mauti got back into football shape, impressing enough at training camp to make it to final cut day. At the time, head coach Sean Payton noted the difficulty of the cut, sharing his admiration for Mauti.

Mauti impressed enough to get the call today to return to the team.

A Mandeville native, Mauti grew up a Saints fan. His father, Rich Mauti, played wide receiver for the Saints from 1977 to 1983.
