Former Louisiana Tech standout and NFL journeyman Luke McCown has agreed to a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints.

At 31 years old, McCown has played for 5 NFL teams, including the Saints last preseason. McCown was on the Saints training camp and preseason roster before being cut in late August. He spent a portion of last season on the Atlanta Falcons active roster.

Nine years in, McCown has been a backup, but earned a few starts in his career. In 2007, he started three games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, throwing for over 1,000 yards and 5 touchdowns that season. However, in his last start in 2011, he struggled in a start for the Jacksonville Jaguars, posting a dreadful 1.8 passer rating.

New Orleans has been seeking a backup quarterback to Drew Brees since Chase Daniel was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs early in free agency.
