Saints Saying They’re Open To Adrian Peterson Returning Is Not A Big Deal
The talk of Adrian Peterson returning to the Saints won't die down.
As a matter of fact, the talk has only increased after recent comments by Saints head coach Sean Peyton.
Last week, Peterson said he'd "definitely be open" to returning to the Saints.
I pointed out, in this piece, why people shouldn't jump to conclusions about what Peterson said..
Well, over the weekend, Peyton said the team would "absolutely" consider signing Peterson.

So what are some people doing? You guessed it; jumping to conclusions.
Again, let's not make a big deal out of this.
Just like I asked; "What was Peterson supposed to say when asked if he'd be open to returning to the Saints when he's a current free agent?"; I'll ask this question about Peyton's remarks; "What was his answer supposed to be?"
You didn't think he'd say; "No, he's not really a good fit for our team, so we'd look elsewhere" did you?
He wouldn't disrespect him like that.
Peyton also said that the team doesn't plan to bring in a veteran running back, for now, so why say you wouldn't bring back Peterson when there is no need to?
As I pointed out earlier, I don't get why some people believe there is/was bad blood between the Saints and Peterson. I bet most of the players and coaches still like him, and that he enjoyed his brief stay in the locker room.
When the Saints traded Peterson, it was just business. The player and the team still probably have a healthy respect for one another, but it probably just isn't in the cards, if not for any other reason than it's just not a good fit.
Peyton even addressed the talk of the two parties not liking one another:
This gets back to the notion that we had some type of any argument (during Week 1) at Minnesota, which I still say there was none,” Payton said. “I think a ton of him.
Again, Peterson is one of the greatest players of all-time, a guy who will be enshrined in Canton as soon as he's eligible. I've got all the respect in the world for Peterson, and what he's accomplished, but he's no longer that player, and anybody that watched him last year in New Orleans saw that he just wasn't a good fit for the Saints' offense.
It was like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.
Peterson is a guy who runs better with a lead blocker, or pounding the ball at the defense for 25 carries a game, hence the nickname "All Day".
That's not the Saints' offense.
Peterson is not adept at catching the ball out of the backfield, running the screen, or picking up the blitz.
That is the Saints' offense.
All of this speculation started because some felt the Saints may be interested in a veteran running back because of the fact that they are expected to start the season without Mark Ingram, who will miss the first four games of the season, due to a PED suspension.
Peterson appeared in four games for the Saints last season, rushing for 81 yards, prior to being traded to the Arizona Cardinals, where he rushed for 529 yards and two touchdowns.
I think Peterson played fairly well last year with the Cardinals, and showed that he may still be able to help a team, in the right system.
As we also saw last year, that's not the Saints.
I hate to ruin the fun for some, but I'd be shocked if Adrian Peterson returns to the Saints.
Folks, it's not happening.
