New Orleans Saints linebacker Dannell Ellerbe has been placed on injured reserve, days before the team begins training camp.

Ellerbe was one of four Saints placed on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list yesterday. Less than 24 hours later, he's on IR.

He couldn't pass his physical, according to Josh Katzenstein of nola.com.

However, going from PUP to IR is a clear sign the two sides disagree on the severity of Ellerbe's health. According to Sean Fazenda of FOX8 in New Orleans, Ellerbe hopes to be healthy in 3 weeks.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network expects the Saints to waive Ellerbe as soon as he's recovered from an unspecified foot injury, thus ending his time with New Orleans.

Ellerbe has missed 32 games in the last 3 seasons due to injury. Not passing a physical won't make him "hot" on the FA market.
