Saints Place Garrett Griffin On IR, Release Chris Clark

The New Orleans Saints made a couple of moves involving offensive players on Monday.

The team placed tight end Garrett Griffin on injured reserve, while also releasing offensive tackle Chris Clark with an injury settlement.

After playing his college football at Air Force, Griffin was signed by the Saints as an undrafted free agent following the 2016 NFL Draft.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Griffin spent all of 2016, and most of 2017, on the Saints practice squad, before being promoted to the 53-man roster in December of 2017.

A native Louisburg, Kansas, Griffin caught one pass for four yards in the last month of the 2017 season.

The 25-year old Griffin was waived by the Saints prior to the start last season, before being signed to the practice squad, and then promoted to the active roster in January.

Griffin caught two passes for the Saints, including a touchdown reception, in their 26-23 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game.

In parts of two NFL seasons, including the postseason, Griffin has compiled three receptions for 16 yards and one touchdown.

The Saints, who signed Clark on August 12, placed him on injured reserve last week, after he suffered a season-ending injury in a Week 2 preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

A native of New Orleans, Clark played his college football at Southern Miss, before signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent, following the 2007 NFL Draft.

The 6-foot-5, 305-pound Clark made his NFL debut with Denver in 2010, before going on to play five seasons for the Broncos, appearing in 69 games, including 27 as a starter.

From 2015-2017, Clark spent three seasons with the Houston Texans, appearing in 37 games, including 26 starts.

Last season, Clark played for the Carolina Panthers, Clark started 13 games, while appearing in 15 for the Carolina Panthers.

In parts of 9 NFL seasons, the 33-year old Clark has appeared in 121 games, including 66 as a starter.
