As expected, New Orleans Saints veteran assistant coach Joe Vitt has been named interim head coach for the 2012 season. The issue with the announcement is that Vitt is suspended for the first six games of the regular season.

During Vitt's 40+ day suspension, the Saints will most likely turn to offensive line coach Aaron Kromer to take over as what I call the interim interim coaching position.

Vitt has been on the Saints staff since Sean Payton took over as head coach in 2006. At 57, Vitt has been a longtime assistant, breaking into the NFL in 1979 with the Baltimore Colts. He played linebacker in college at Towson State back in the mid 70's.

Sean Payton's suspension begins this Monday and runs until the end of next season's Super Bowl.

What do you think of the Saints decision to promote Vitt to interim head coach? Is it the right move?
