New Orleans Saints linebacker Kiko Alonso suffered a major injury in Sunday's 26-20 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Playoffs.

The 29-year old Alonso suffered a torn ACL, the third of his career.

Alonso, who the Saints acquired in a trade with the Miami Dolphins in September, missed the entire 2014 season with the same injury and suffered a setback in that same knee in 2015.

Alonso is slated to earn $6.375MM in base compensation next year, the final year of his contract.

He is expected to be ready to play in time for the start of the 2020 NFL season, but it's not likely the Saints will bring Alonso back, at least at that price.

New Orleans could save $7.85MM against the cap by releasing him.

In 13 games with the Saints this season, including four as a starter, Alonso recorded 31 tackles.
