Saints Claim Linebacker Jonathan Freeny/Waive Sterling Moore
The New Orleans Saints added some much needed linebacker help on Thursday.
The team claimed former New England Patriots linebacker Jonathan Freeny off of waivers.
To make room for Freeny, the team released veteran defensive back Sterling Moore.
The 28-year old Freeny played in four games this season, including one with the Patriots, and three with the Baltimore Ravens, totaling 4 tackles.
An undrafted free agent out of Rutgers in 2011, Freeny has played with the Miami Dolphins, Patriots, and Ravens over his 6-year NFL career, compiling 106 career tackles, including two sacks.
A native of Margate, Florida, Freeny's best season came back in 2015, when he tallied 50 tackles in 13 games, including 7 starts, for the Patriots
The Saints were looking for help at linebacker, due to A.J. Klein's groin injury. Klein hasn't practiced this week and is doubtful for Sunday's home game against the New York Jets.
The 27-year old Moore appeared in 13 games for the Saints last season, including 12 as a starter, totaling 56 tackles and two interceptions.
The 5-foot-10, 202-pound Moore played in five games for the Saints this season, mainly on special teams.
A native of Antioch, California, Moore played his college football at SMU, before playing for 5 different NFL teams.
Over parts of 7 NFL seasons, Moore has compiled 181 tackles and 6 interceptions.
