The NFC South is quite the place for tandem running backs this season.

If you look towards Atlanta they've got Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman. Carolina with the veteran-rookie one-two punch in Jonathan Stewart and Christian McCaffrey. Of course here in New Orleans it's the dynamic duo of 'Boom and Zoom' aka Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara.

However, the two youngsters of the group were the ones who made history this season with still one game remaining on the schedule.

In the history of the NFL there has never been two rookies before them who have accomplished this feat....

Absolutely incredible when you think about it. There are times when rookie running backs will take over the starting role on a team, that's not uncommon but these two guys aren't starters. They are however, major contributors to their teams offenses. Both dynamic in the same light, shifty, extremely athletic, tough, and extremely intelligent.

Let's take a closer look at each of their numbers as their rookie campaigns are set to come to a close...

Alvin Kamara:

  • 684 yards rushing on 111 attempts, averaging 6.2 yards per carry
  • Seven rushing touchdowns
  • 742 yards receiving on 75 receptions, averaging 9.9 yards per catch
  • Five receiving touchdowns

Christian McCaffrey:

  • 421 yards rushing on 111 attempts, averaging 3.8 yards per carry
  • Two rushing touchdowns
  • 611 yards receiving on 75 receptions, averaging 8.1 yards per catch
  • Five receiving touchdowns

Clearly, Alvin Kamara, the 67th overall pick in last years draft, has had the more productive season than the 8th overall pick in Christian McCaffrey. Regardless, both players are having very strong seasons and allow their team to utilize their unique skill sets in a variety of ways to help their team win.
