Road Teams Dominate Saturday Sun Belt Games

For the first two weeks of the Sun Belt Conference season, the home teams dominated.

But this week belonged to the road warriors.

After the road team won three out of four Thursday games, there was even less home cooking on Saturday as the home team went only 1-5, with Louisiana's 82-48 mauling of ULM the only home success.

Here's what else happened around the league:

GEORGIA SOUTHERN 60, APPALACHIAN STATE 59--Georgia Southern came back from a double digit deficit to take down Appalachian State.  Tookie Brown hit a pair of jumpers in the final minute for the Eagles (14-5, 5-1).  Ronshad Shabazz missed a three pointer at the buzzer that would have won it for App State (8-11,3-3).  Brown scored 21 for Georgia Southern while Shabazz led the Mountaineers with 17.

GEORGIA STATE 72, COASTAL CAROLINA 58--The Panthers (13-6, 4-2) made it four in a row with their win in Conway, SC on Saturday.  Devin Mitchell led GSU with 15 points while Malik Benlevi had a double double with 14 points and eleven boards.  Georgia State used a 15-0 run to take an 18 point lead with under 12 minutes left. Artur Labinowicz had a career high 32 for the Chanticleers (7-12, 1-5) who lost their fifth straight.

TEXAS STATE 72, LITTLE ROCK 70--Alex Peacock had the winning basket last Saturday and repeated the feat in Little Rock as the Bobcats (12-7, 5-1) won their fifth straight game.  Peacock's buzzer beater came after the Trojans (5-14, 2-4) had scored five points in 14 seconds to tie the game.

UTA 97, ARKANSAS STATE 71--The Mavericks (12-7, 3-3) evened their league record by nailing 15 three pointers in their rout of the Red Wolves (6-13, 1-5).  Johnny Hamilton led UTA with 19 points while Erick Neal had 18.  UTA led 54-31 at the half.  Devin Simms led Arkansas State with 14.  The Red Wolves have lost five in a row.

TROY 79, SOUTH ALABAMA 64---It was a big night for Alex Hicks, who had 30 points and 16 rebounds as the Trojans (8-10, 2-3) won in Mobile.  Troy led 37-31 at the break and increased the league to 61-48 in the second half.  The Jags (9-9, 2-3) were led by Roderick Sykes with 18 points.
