Report: Saints Are Bringing Back Stephone Anthony
A former first-round bust of the New Orleans Saints who was traded after 2 years with the team is coming back.
Linebacker Stephone Anthony is signing with the Saints, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
As Rapoport points out, it's a double reunion of sorts for Anthony, who comes back to the team that drafted him 31st overall in the 1st round of the 2015 draft, and is reunited with Saints special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi, who was Anthony's ST coordinator in Miami in 2017 and 2018.
Anthony's rookie year for the Saints showed promise, as he racked up 112 tackles, one sack, one interception, and two forced fumbles.
In 2016, Anthony moved to strongside linebacker and struggled, playing in only 10 games, ending the year on IR in late December with 16 tackles for the year.
New Orleans traded him to Miami in 2017 for a 5th round draft pick.
The Dolphins did not pick-up his 5th year rookie option for 2019.
Anthony signed with Atlanta but was cut in training camp, then signed with the New York Jets in camp, but failed to make the 53 man roster.
Anthony takes the roster spot of rookie linebacker Kaden Eliss, who was placed on injured reserve today.
