The Boston Red Sox advanced to the American League Championship Series, while the Detroit Tigers forced a fifth-and-decisive game in their American League Divisional Series, in Major League Baseball playoff action on Tuesday.

Boston defeated the Tampa Bay Rays, 3-1, on Tuesday, to win that best-of-five game series, 3-1.

The Red Sox now move on to the ALCS for the first time since 2008, where they will face either the Detroit Tigers or Oakland Athletics.

In Detroit, the Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, and three more in the bottom of the eighth, to help them beat the Oakland A's, 8-6, and even up that best-of-five game ALDS, 2-2.

Game five will take place Thursday night, in Oakland, California, with first-pitch scheduled for 5:07 (pdt).

On Wednesday, it's game five of the National League Divisional Series, between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates. First-pitch there is slated for 7:07 (cdt).
