When the 2016 baseball season began, not many thought Jared Poche would be an LSU Tiger in the 2017 season.

Not many expected him to go as low as the 14th round either.

Poche announced today he has broken off talks with the San Diego Padres and, instead, will return for his senior season at LSU.

Poche had a 9-4 record with the Tigers in 2016, with a 3.35 ERA.

His return means the Tigers' top two starters will return as Poche will again team up with Alex Lange to form one of the best starting duos in America.  They will join eight of nine position players who will return as well.  Only center fielder Jake Fraley, who signed professionally, will be missing from the 2016 lineup that was eliminated by eventual national champion Coastal Carolina in the Baton Rouge super regional.
