Two weeks after acquiring backup point guard Gal Mekel, the New Orleans Pelicans are parting ways with the 26 year old Israeli.

Mekel seemed to be a good fit in his first few appearances with the team, running the Pelican offense, finding teammates in the passing lane, and getting the club into the right set. He played in his first four games with the club, but hasn't been called off the bench in the last four.

As it turns out, the move to waive him could be temporary. At least, if you believe what New Orleans head coach Monty Williams said about him to Nakia Hogan of the Times Picayune.

"We just felt like it was a move that we wanted to take a look at him," Williams said to hogan. "We thought he did a good job, (but) there are some particulars financially that I am not going to discuss, that's for Dell and his staff (to discuss). They do a good job of keeping the organization in a good place. We like (Mekel) a lot. That doesn't mean we won't bring him back. But at this point we felt like we were going to go in a different direction."

New Orleans GM Dell Demps, aptly nicknamed Dealer Dell by basketball writers, is likely gearing up for another move. Could that mean a return for Mekel after potential shuffling of roster spots? Maybe. But it's a clear sign Demps will be dealing this holiday season.
