Pelicans Snap Celtics Win Streak Behind Davis’ Big Night
Anthony Davis was the best player on the floor Tuesday night, helping his New Orleans Pelicans snap the Boston Celtics 7 game win streak in 116-113 overtime victory.
Two days after scoring 48 in an overtime win over the New York Knicks, Davis put up 45 points and 16 rebounds, refusing to let his team lose when they trailed by 5 points in the last two minutes of regulation.
"A.D. was terrific," said head coach Alvin Gentry. "When we needed him most, and when we needed Jrue (Holiday) most, they came through."
New Orleans point guard Jrue Holiday put up an impressive stat line (23 points, 7 assists, 3 steals), and sealed the game with a shot late in overtime with a huge field goal.
"This guy (Holiday) took over in overtime for us," said Davis of his running mate.
Holiday was also superb on the defensive end of the floor.
"We came back and played defense," said Holiday. "The biggest part for us was getting rebounds down the stretch."
With the victory, New Orleans improves to 23-20, climbing to 3 games above .500 for the first time this season.
The team now has a quick turnaround, traveling to Atlanta for a Wednesday night matchup with the Hawks (12-31).
