Pelicans Sign F Alonzo Gee To 2 Year Deal, Where He Fits

The New Orleans Pelicans are closer to a full roster after agreeing to a 2 year deal with forward Alonzo Gee.

As first reported by Yahoo sports NBA reporter Adrian Wojnarowski, Gee's deal is worth $2.75 million, with a player option in year 2.

New Orleans was looking for a versatile defender. They have one in Gee.

While he won't be up for an All-NBA defensive team spot, he should provide the Pelicans with added defensive versatility at the end of the bench, having shown a knack for guarding opposing shooting guards and small forwards who are threats to score a variety of ways.

If Gee turns into more of a rotational player this season, it'll mean he's a viable threat from 3 point range. With Gentry's fast paced offense relying on 3 point threats from the outside, Gee can earn a more regular spot in the rotation if defenses view his range as a threat.

Gee spent a few days with the Pelicans last offseason as his unguaranteed contract was acquired in a trade, which GM Dell Demps used as part of the trade package to acquire center Omer Asik from the Houston Rockets.
