The New Orleans Pelicans have selected the freshman center from the University of Texas in Jaxson Hayes. The Pelicans received this pick when they made a deal with the Atlanta Hawks for the 4th overall pick, New Orleans still has the 17th and 35th picks from Atlanta.

Hayes was a late bloomer, he didn't start in high school until his senior year and burst onto the scene at Texas where he was a problem defensively for opponents. He averaged just 10 points per game and five rebounds but his strength is protecting the rim as he averaged 2.2 blocks per game.

He and Zion Williamson in the frontcourt could be a very dangerous combination defensively. Here are some highlights from Jaxson Hayes:
