Patrick Mahomes was born in Tyler, Texas. He played high school football at Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas. He even played his college football at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.

What do all three of those places have in common?

Whataburger.

There are multiple Whataburger locations in Tyler and Lubbock, and there are locations within 10 miles of Whitehouse High School. So it's pretty safe to say Patrick Mahomes grew up knowing the power of a Monterey Melt or Sweet & Spicy Bacon Burger.

Now, Mahomes is the leading candidate for the NFL MVP as the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. But he doesn't have a Whataburger.

This week, that became a national story. A Chiefs press conference was hijacked with some odd questions, after his love of ketchup took the internet by storm, which led to Mahomes confirming his love of Whataburger.

So that was the first mention. But it went of from there when the team behind the Whataburger Twitter account got in on the action. Sending Mahomes a Tweet about a ketchup delivery:

Which is where Mahomes saw his opportunity. Like seeing a receiver flashing open between defenders in a Tampa-2 coverage, he took his shot, with a well-placed response to Whataburger:

So when that landed at the feet of the Whataburger team, they decided it was time to act. Now, we're not exactly sure where it goes from here, because Whataburger took the negotiations outside of the public eye...

That's right, Whataburger just slid into Patrick Mahomes DMs. Could KC get their first Whataburger because an NFL quarterback from Smith County, Texas dropped their name in a national press conference? Maybe.

Right now, the closest Whataburger to KC is in Tulsa, OK. That's a good 4 hour drive to get your Patty Melt on. So it makes sense why Mahomes might want one closer.

I'm sure this isn't the last we'll hear of this. If it does happen, there's already the promise of a Mahomes statue being built in Kansas City
