The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns defeated the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles Wednesday night 6-5 in 12 innings thanks to senior Orynn Veillon's walk-off home run.

The team was looking to rebound after a disappointing night on Tuesday against UNO as they faced Southern Mississippi on Wednesday.

They would be looking to end a three-game skid as Jacob Schultz got the ball to begin the game.

Schultz wouldn't be long for this game as he went just two innings, as planned, he allowed three hits and one run in the second inning as he gave up a double on an 0-2 pitch.

However, the Cajuns were able to answer right back in the bottom of the second inning when Jordan Wiley got on with a single and then with two outs, Daniel Lahare doubled to score Wiley. The game was tied at one.

The game remained tied at one until the sixth inning. Grant Cox was on for his fourth inning but unfortunately couldn't record an out as he allowed a triple that was misplayed in right field by Orynn Veillon and then a walk. He was replaced by Caleb Armstrong and he couldn't put out the fire, he was greeted by a successful safety squeeze to score one run and then a two-out RBI single up the middle from Danny Lynch. It was now 3-1 Southern Miss.

In the bottom of the inning, Louisiana would do what they did in the second, answer right back. The inning got going with a Hayden Cantrelle single and he was moved to third when Brennan Breaux hit a ball that went right through the shortstop's legs to put runners on the corners. Cantrelle would score on a passed ball and then after Handsome Monica recorded an infield single Breaux scored on another ball that got past the catcher to tie the game at three.

The momentum would stick with the Cajuns as Caleb Armstrong worked around a lead-off single and the offense scratched out a run via an infield single by Brennan Breaux. 4-3 Louisiana.

The Golden Eagles took the lead back in the top of the eighth when Michale Leaumont surrendered a two-out, two-RBI double to Cole Donaldson, 5-4 USM.

However, for the third time in the game, Louisiana came right back and answered when Daniel Lahare got a suicide squeeze down to score a run and we were tied at 5.

We went all the way to the 12th inning with young Chance Stone giving the Cajuns a chance in extra's by tossing three scoreless innings. In the bottom of the inning, Orynn Veillon who has been struggling the previous few games busted out with a game-winning home run! Louisiana downed Southern Miss. 6-5.

Chance Stone picked up his first colligate victory and the team improved to 7-10 on the year as they're set to head to Little Rock to face the Trojans to open up Sun Belt Conference play.
