Starting pitcher Nick Lee threw the best game of his collegiate career Friday night, helping Louisiana defeat South Alabama 2-1 at Russo Park at M.L. Tigue Moore Field.

The junior right hander from Longville, Louisiana threw a season high 8 innings, struck out a career high 10 batters, allowing only 1 hit as he faced 25 Jaguar batters and earned his first win of the season.

Offensively, the Cajuns finished with 6 hits, including 2 from senior Kennon Fontenot.

In the 3rd inning, his double to right center scored Gavin Bourgeois, giving the Cajuns a 1-0 lead.

"It was good for him to step up and get it done," said head coach Tony Robichaux of Fontenot.

Catcher Kole McKinnon scored Jonathan Windham in the bottom of the 4th with a groundout to shortstop, doubling Louisiana's lead to 2-0.

The Cajuns committed one error, but made tremendous plays in the field all night.

"What it does for these pitchers, they throw in control, they throw in the strike zone and they're not afraid to throw for the double play," said Robichaux. "Good defense always helps the psyche of a pitcher."

Freshmen hurler Brock Batty earned the save, pitching the 9th inning.

Louisiana (6-7) looks to capture the series tomorrow when sophomore right hander Jack Burk (1-2) gets the start. First pitch is set for 2:00.
