LSU and BYU were scheduled to cap off an exciting opening weekend of college football Saturday night at NRG Stadium in Houston, but Hurricane Harvey has forced officials to relocate the game. Harvey, which hit the Texas coast late Friday evening, has dumped torrential rain causing major flooding in Houston and surrounding areas.

Matt Mocsona of 104.5/104.9 ESPN Baton Rouge & 100.3 ESPN New Orleans is reporting the game will be played in New Orleans at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

ESPN along with AdvoCare Texas Kickoff officials and representatives from LSU and BYU began communicating Sunday afternoon, looking at alternate sites to host the Tigers and Cougars. Nashville and Orlando were among several of the sites discussed by officials.

Game time is set for 8:30 Saturday night and can be seen on ESPN.

The decision to move the game was ultimately up to ESPN, something LSU AD Joe Alleva noted while meeting with media in Baton Rouge on Monday afternoon.

"Over the weekend and this morning, we have been in constant communication with ESPN and the folks in Texas. This is ESPN’s game. It’s not LSU’s game. They have the rights to it, and they are negotiating where the game will be located.”

The Tigers are no strangers to having mother nature wreck havoc forcing an alteration in plans. Last season Hurricane Matthew forced LSU's scheduled game with Florida to be moved from October 8th in Gainesville to mid-November in Baton Rouge. In 2015, LSU's season opener with McNeese was delayed and then ultimately canceled due to lightning around Tiger Stadium.
