The NBA released its weekly Power Rankings via ESPN today and don't look now but the New Orleans Pelicans are streaking to eight wins in a row and have put the league on notice.

Last week the Pelicans continued rolling, they were a perfect 3-0. They defeated the Pheonix Suns at home before winning back to back road games at the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks.

Over this eight game winning streak, scoring the basketball has not been a problem. The Pels have averaged 127 points over their winning streak and during that time haven't scored less than 118 points in a game.

Because of all that the team has made the quantum leap from 16th in the rankings last week to 7th this week and they sit at 36-26 overall on the season, the same record as the Cleveland Cavaliers right now. Talk about two teams trending in different directions.

Here's what New Orleans has coming up this week:

  • Tuesday at Los Angeles Clippers
  • Wednesday at Sacramento Kings
  • Friday vs. Washington Wizards
  • Sunday vs. Utah Jazz

The Pelicans currently sit in the 4th spot right now in the west, however, there are eight teams in the West separated by four games or less from seeds 3 to 10. It's going to be a very interesting final 20+ games of the regular season.
