The Washington Nationals scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally past the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 to win the National League Wild Card.

Washington now faces the Los Angeles Dodgers in a best of five series beginning Thursday at Dodger Stadium.

Milwaukee got a two run homer from Yasmani Grandal in the first inning and added a homer by Eric Thames off starter Max Scherzer to give the Brewers a 3-0 lead in the second inning.

The Nationals got a run back in the third on a homer by Trea Turner off starter Brandon Woodruff to make the score 3-1.

The score remained that way until the eighth when pinch hitter Michael A. Taylor was hit by a pitch with one out.  With two out, Ryan Zimmerman hit a broken bat single to center moving Taylor to third.  Lafayette native Andrew Stevenson ran for Zimmerman and moved to second when Anthony Rendon walked.  Juan Soto then singled to right and the bases cleared when Trent Grisham overran the ball.

The Brewers got one on in the ninth inning, but that was it.

The Nationals and Dodgers begin their best of five series Thursday night at Dodger Stadium.

The win was the tenth straight for the Nationals, and their first win in seven tries with a chance to eliminate the opposition.
