Is the Western Athletic Conference about to be out of the football business?

Last week, Texas-San Antonio announced they were planning to join Conference USA in 2013.

Now, two more WAC members could be on the move.

Both Utah State and San Jose State have acknowledged talks with the Mountain West Conference, although the schools say no invitation has yet been extended.

Both schools have been in the same conference, dating back to their days in the Big West.  Utah State was in the Sun Belt for two years before joining the WAC.

If the two teams leave the WAC, the conference would be down to four FBS football members, Louisiana Tech, Texas State, New Mexico State and Idaho, plus Denver, Seattle and Texas-Arlington, none of which play football.

But Louisiana Tech is rumored to be headed to CUSA and Texas State, and possibly Texas-Arlington could be headed to the Sun Belt.

That would leave NMSU and Idaho scrambling for a place to put their football teams.
