The McNeese St. Cowboys have made a decision on who their next head football coach is going to be.


The offensive coordinator at South Florida the last two years, also previously served in the same role in the same role at Texas in 2016.

A native of San Angelo, Texas, Gilbert also spent time as the offensive coordinator at Eastern Illinois, Bowling Green, and Tulsa, prior to his time at Texas.

A former college quarterback at Angelo State, Gilbert spent a three-year stretch as the head coach at San Angelo’s Lake View High School from 2008-10.

Gilbert is set to take over a McNeese program that finished 6-5 in 2018 under previous head coach Lance Guidry, who was not retained last month after three years leading the Cowboys.
