Max Unger Agrees To Extension With Saints

Center Max Unger is going to be a member of the New Orleans Saints for a little while longer, after agreeing to a three-year contract extension with the team on Thursday.

The 30-year old Unger, who was set to enter the final year of his 5-year contract, which was paying him an average annual salary of  $4.45 million, now gets a nice raise, which will boost his average annual salary to more than $7 million.

Herbie Teope of NOLA.com was the first to report the extension.

A native of Hawaii, Unger played his college football at Oregon, before being selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

The Seahawks made Unger an immediate starter and it paid off, as he became one of the more solid performers at his position, being named to the Pro Bowl in 2012 and 2013.

The Saints acquired Unger prior to the 2015 season, in a trade that sent tight end Jimmy Graham to the Seahawks.

Unger started all 16 games for the Saints a season ago.
