The LSU Tigers may be without one of their more promising younger players for most of, if not all, of the 2019 season.

Kardell Thomas, a freshman guard from Southern University Lab School, will have ankle surgery, following an injury sustained in a recent practice.

The 6-foot-2, 356-pound Thomas was ranked by 247 Sports as the fourth-best offensive guard in the nation, as well as the fourth-best player in the state of Louisiana.

Despite the injury, and the upcoming surgery, Thomas has not yet been ruled out for all of 2019.

If Thomas is out for the year, or if he plays in four or fewer games, he can use the 2019 season as a redshirt year, which would allow him to still have four years of eligibility remaining.
