LSU quarterback Danny Etling has been named to the final watch list of the 2017 preseason in college football.

A senior from Terre Haute, Indiana, Etling is among the 109 players on the preseason watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy, named for former Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel, who played in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints.

The Danny Wuerffel Award is the premier award for community service in college football.

Etling, who transferred to LSU from Purdue in 2015, is a May 2017 graduate and was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2016.

Last season, Etling started the final 10 games at quarterback in 2016, passing for 2,123 yards, to go along for 11 touchdowns, while leading the Tigers to a 7-3 mark during his time behind center.

The winner of the Wuerffel Trophy will be announced at the National Football Foundation's press conference in New York City on December 5.

This will be the 13th edition of the Wuerffel Trophy, with LSU's Rudy Niswanger winning the inaugural honor in 2005.
