LSU Crushes Auburn Behind Fournette’s Career Day

LSU Tigers running back Leonard Fournette rushed for a career high 228 yards in less than three quarters of work, scoring 3 touchdowns in the process, as LSU rolled over SEC West foe Auburn on Saturday, 45-21.

The first play from scrimmage was a sign of things to come, as Fournette rushed for 71 yards against an Auburn defense that stacked the box. Three plays later, LSU quarterback Brandon Harris carried the ball into the end zone for an early lead that was never threatened.

"Leonard Fournette...I mean...all of the accolades and all of the descriptions you can make (about) a guy...he's very, very special," said LSU coach Les Miles to CBS Sports reporter Allie LaForce shortly after the win.

"This is a quality group of young men that are really committed to one another," added Miles.

Fournette shares Miles' sentiment, giving credit to his teammates when asked why he was so dominant on Saturday.

"Dominant because of my O-Line. Brandon Harris taking control of the game...we're getting better as a unit," said Fournette to LaForce.

Speaking of Harris, the sophomore starting QB looked comfortable in his position, completing 12 of his 17 passes for a touchdown, adding another 66 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground.

"He managed the game. He made the plays he needed to make," said Miles. "He wasn't perfect but I don't know anybody who is. He made some stuff (happen) with his feet."

As a team, LSU rushed for 411 yards, and another 74 yards passing with a conservative and extremely effective approach.

"We're starting to look like the offense we're capable of being," explained Miles.

LSU's defense shut Auburn out in the first half, giving the Tigers a 24-0 lead through two quarters and complete control of the contest and forcing 2 turnovers.

With the victory, LSU improves to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in SEC play. Auburn falls to 2-1, and 0-1 in SEC play.

Next up, LSU travels to New York next week for a non-conference matchup with the Syracuse Orange. Kickoff is set for 11am on Saturday.
