Louisiana Tops Troy 6-2, Takes Series

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun baseball team won their 5th consecutive game Saturday afternoon, topping the Troy Trojans 6-2.

Senior right hander Greg Milhorn worked the first 4 innings for Louisiana, while junior right hander Will Bacon finished off Troy in the final 5 innings.

"We did a really good job on the mound today for the most part," said Louisiana head coach Tony Robichaux after the win. "But we still walked way too many batters. We'll have to clean that up on Sunday."

Milhorn and Bacon walked 3 batters a piece, but performed well otherwise.

Milhorn gave up 3 hits, 2 runs, and one unearned run, fanning two batters. Bacon struck out 6, not allowing a hit or a run to earn the victory (1-1).

Louisiana shortstop Blake Trahan led off the game with a double to left field, scoring two batters later for the first run of the game.

Troy answered with runs in the 2nd and 3rd, but Louisiana grabbed two runs in the 5th to retake the lead.

Clinging to a one run lead, senior Dylan Butler stepped up in a big way for the Cajuns, jacking a two run homer off the left field foul pole with two outs in the bottom of the 6th.

"We've been waiting for someone to get us a big pop," said Robichaux. "Butler has worked hard. It was good to see him step up and get it for us."

With the win, the Cajuns improve to 9-5, and 2-0 in Sun Belt Conference play. Troy falls to 7-7, 0-2 in conference play.

After 5 straight victories and a series clinching win over Troy, the Cajuns are looking for the sweep tomorrow.

"We can't come out tomorrow acting like we've won anything," explained Robichaux. "I asked the team (after the win) what we accomplished today, and they said 'nothing'. We won a game...We'll need to do a lot of things right to get another victory tomorrow. All winning does is provide you the opportunity to get better."
