Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun football team returns to the gridiron on Saturday evening, when coach Mark Hudspeth’s squad plays host to the McNeese St. Cowboys in a non-conference contest.

The game will mark the 38th meeting between the schools, located about 80 miles from each other on Interstate 10.

McNeese St., which competes in the Football Championship Subdivision and are members of the Southland Conference, where most of the contests between the two longtime rivals took place, leads the all-time series, 20-15-2.

The Cowboys won the last meeting between the two, 38-17, back in 2007.

The Cajun Harley Davidson Tailgate show, begins at 4 pm on ESPN 1420 and espn1420.com, with the rest of the network, including Hot 107.9 and 1079ishot.com, joining the broadcast in time for the Southside Honda Pregame Show, which will begin at 5 o’clock.

Kickoff time at Cajun Field is set for 6 pm.

Louisiana, who dropped their 2016 season opener, falling to the Boise St. Broncos, 45-10, last Saturday at Cajun Field, is 0-1 on the young season.

Offensively, the Cajuns are averaging 10.0 points-per-game, along with 267.0 total yards, 81.0 rushing yards, and 186.0 passing yards, while allowing 45.0 points, 584.0 total yards, 158.0 rushing yards, and 426.0 passing yards.

Louisiana is led by senior quarterback Anthony Jennings, who has completed 21-of-33 passes for 186 yards and a touchdown, and senior running back Elijah McGuire, who compiled 1,058 yards, along with 13 touchdowns, on 210 carries in 2015.

McNeese St., who defeated Tarleton St., 33-3, in their season opener last Saturday, will enter the match-up at 1-0, after finishing 10-1 a season ago.

Offensively, the Cowboys are averaging 33.3 points-per-game, along with 568.0 total yards, 210.0 rushing yards, and 358.0 passing yards a contest, while allowing 3.0 points, 134.0 total yards, 139.0 passing yards, and -5.0 rushing yards.

McNeese St. is paced by sophomore quarterback James Tabary, who has completed 19-of-29 passes for 254 yards and 2 touchdowns, and junior running back Ryan Ross, who has rushed 77 yards on 19 attempts.

The game marks the second game of a three-game season-opening homestand for the Cajuns, who will host South Alabama in their Sun Belt Conference opener next week.
