Ragin' Cajun big man Shawn Long flexed some muscled against Texas State and UT-Arlington, and it earned him Sun Belt and LSWA Player of the Week honors.

Long, one of the nations top post players in rebounding (3rd in country) and double-doubles (7th), went off against the two Texas teams to help the Cajuns win two more games in Sun Belt play. In his two games, he averaged some monstrous numbers (20.5 ppg, 14.5 rpg) and collected a whopping six blocks against UT-Arlington. On the year now, he sits at 18.9 ppg and 12.8 rpg. Numbers only matter so much.

He is helping his team heat up heading into the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

Long beat out ULM's Majok Deng, who he will be playing this week. The Warhawks' post presence averaged 22.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg in their two wins last week to make four straight victories for ULM. Long won't be alone in the paint with Bryce Washington and Devonta Walker, but he will definitely have another shot to prove his worth against a skilled opponent.

Long's decision to return for his senior season is proving to be a very wise choice. With his consistent performances, the player of the week honors and national recognition continue to pile up. His draft stock might not be skyrocketing, but it's definitely rising.

Out of 19 games this season, Long has 14 double-doubles. He has five games this season where he collected 20 points and 15 rebounds. The individual games are enough to stagger you, but the body of work as a whole is even more impressive.

There have only been five games all year where Long scored less than 15 points, and he only has one single digit scoring game. To add more icing on top, there are only three games all season where Long didn't break into double figures on the glass as well.

He's the heartbeat of this Ragin' Cajuns Basketball team, and he wants to keep them alive to survive and advance into March.
