Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball catcher Lexie Elkins may currently be nursing a thumb injury, but her play this season was nothing short of spectacular.

Elkins was named a top 25 finalist today for the USA Today Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, given to the best player in college softball.

It marks the second consecutive season the senior from Victoria, Texas is on the list of the final top 25.

A two-time Sun Belt Conference player of the year, a two-time All-American, and numerous other honors has already been bestowed on Elkins prior to this season.

In addition to being a magnificent catcher, Elkins is one of the best power hitters in the country, hitting 73 homeruns in the last two and a half seasons.

The Cajuns are hoping to have her back from injury later this season.

This weekend, #5 Louisiana travels to Gainesville, Florida for a matchup with #1 Florida.

All games can be heard on ESPN1420 with Steve Peloquin and Bobby Neveaux.

The top 5 matchup begins Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon. Sunday, the two teams wrap up the weekend series with a single game starting at noon.
