Lafayette High is moving into a new era. The Mighty Lions have a new Head Coach in Rob Pool and a little attitude. Now they have the spotlight every Friday.

Townsquare Media and NewsTalk 96.5 KPEL will carry every Lafayette High football game this season, with Ian Auzenne (play-by-play) and Brandon Comeaux (color) on the call.

LHS Principal Donald Thornton wanted to change things athletically. It started when he hired Pool, and he was ecstatic to get their games on the radio.

"Going into my second year as principal, I wanted to really put LHS football on the map. This coverage will really put a spotlight on all the positive things we are doing.  In addition to all of the academic achievements, LHS has enjoyed a lot of success in sports," Thornton said. "Now is the time for LHS football. I have hired several new coaches this year, and Head Football Coach Rob Pool has brought a new energy into the program. The players and the school in general are fired up for this season."

Principal Thornton is also introducing the hashtag #LHSProud to remind the students and fan base that Lafayette High School has a lot of tradition. Whether it's #LHSProud or #LionPride, he wants to bring the football fire back.

Speaking of fire, Coach Pool is the torch. He's a calm and godly man off the field, but his blood pumps a little hotter when game time comes around.

Pool isn't trying to dismantle everything. He acknowledges the foundation he gets to build on, but he's ready to get to work putting some wins together brick by brick.

"When you come into a place and start something new, you want to destroy what's been done, and I don't think that's the case here," Pool said. "From the day I walked in, the guys worked hard, and we just tried to change the philosophy a little bit where I put more on the players to be leaders."

The players will look to their coach as the primary leader, and Pool is ready to blaze a new path for them. It's his first head coaching gig, and he's hungry to prove his worth. He's from a coaching family, so the X's and O's are mixed in with his DNA.

LHS fans should expect a modernized offense and a different tone on the field. What they won't see is the preparation, which is Pool's biggest day-to-day project. The talent has been there all along, he just wants to tap the potential through hard work.

With every game on radio, the stage is wide open for the Mighty Lions to claim. Rob Pool wants to lead LHS into the future, and you can listen every step of the way.
