We are now down to two.

The 3 seeded Lafayette Christian Academy Knights and the 4 seeded Midland High School Rebels are the two remaining Acadiana area high school basketball teams remaining in the LHSAA boys basketball playoffs as each team advanced to the quarterfinal round with 14-point victories on Tuesday night. LCA wore down perennial Top 28 contender and 19 seeded Grambling High School, pressing on to a 71-57 victory in the Class 1A playoffs while Midland ran past consistent playoff contender 13 seeded Glenmora 60-46.

Both the Knights and the Rebels are each one win away from returning to the Top 28 Tournament in Lake Charles. LCA would be looking to improve on their semifinal appearance last year in the Class 1A playoffs while Midland would be looking to defend its Class B championship it won last year.

Here are the results of the 2nd round of the LHSAA boys basketball playoffs from an Acadiana area perspective, as well as the matchups for the quarterfinal round on Friday.

Class 5A

Unfortunately, both Acadiana area teams were knocked out of the playoffs. Top 28 contender and 6 seeded Lafayette High was narrowly upset by 22 seeded Parkway on the road 69-68. Meanwhile, 29 seeded Carencro's return trip to the New Orleans area wasn't as successful as its first round trip to St. Augustine as they lost to 20 seeded L.W. Higgins 41-28.

Their District 7-1A mates weren't as fortunate. District runner up and 10 seeded Central Catholic of Morgan City was defeated on the road by 7 seeded Hamilton Christian 61-47. Meanwhile, 12 seeded Ascension Episcopal fell valiantly to 5 seeded Northwood-Lena 47-42, also on the road.

The Midland Rebels kept their dreams alive of defending their state championship by eliminating Glenmora. Last year's state title team was coached by now-principal Todd Briley, son of longtime coach and former Midland High principal Clyde Briley. This year's team is coached by a longtime assistant of Todd Briley, William Stanley.
