The Dallas Cowboys will name Monte Kiffin as their defensive coordinator, replacing Rob Ryan, according to the Dallas-Fort Worth site of ESPN.com.

Kiffin spent four years on his son Lane's staffs on Tennessee and USC, before leaving the team last month.  He had expressed a desire to return to the NFL.

Kiffin, 73, ran one of the league's best defenses in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was a member of the staff that won the Super Bowl in 2002.

Kiffin's hire will mean the Cowboys' defense will be re-tooled from a 3-4 defense.
